Are you looking to break a bad habit? Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for getting out of the mindset of need. That’s why to do this, you are going to need to come into it with the mindset of ‘this is what I want, I want to stop.’ It doesn’t matter how big or small the bad habit is, they are all hard to stop.
So keep this idea in mind: What you focus on becomes stronger. And that means whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right. That’s because energy goes where attention flows. Your attention, your focus, is an aiming of energy. So focus on what you want. And whenever a negative “I can’t” thought comes to mind, I want you to say, “STOP! I refuse to accept this thought.” And replace it with an “I can” thought.
In this article, we are going to look at some of the bad habits that you need a positive mindset to get out of.
Bad Habit: Weight Loss
Weight loss can be a good thing if you need to lose weight. Some people have an unhealthy addiction to food, and this needs to be overcome in order to lose weight. If you are overweight, then losing those extra pounds is going to be good for your health, but when this is taken too far, it can become another issue altogether.
Getting yourself out of the mindset of needing to lose weight can be difficult, especially if you have body dysmorphia. But, it is possible with the right attitude and dedication. It isn’t going to be an easy ride, but you can end up doing yourself more harm than good if you carry on losing weight after you are back to being healthy. It isn’t going to be an easy thing to do, and that is why getting help from your friends or family should be something that you do immediately. Remember, you are not going to get out of the negative mindset if you don’t want to, and nobody is going to be able to do this for you.
Bad Habit: Substance Abuse
Or, you might have an issue with substance abuse. It doesn’t matter whether this is legal or illegal drugs, or alcohol it can be a problem that can ruin your life. You form a dependence in your head that you need these drugs to get by, but you don’t. You need to break the cycle of dependence to be able to move on. You can find an MD who is willing to help you with your issues with this bad habit, but you have to be willing to do so.
Getting help is going to be one of the hardest things for you to do, and only by changing how you look at this bad habit are you going to be able to do it. You need to be able to believe in yourself.
Bad Habit: Smoking
Smoking is one of the most common bad habits out there, and it can be a struggle to overcome. You may have heard stories of people who have simply said ‘no more’ and then gone on to never smoke again. Going cold turkey is never going to be simple, but it can be done. Although for many people it is a lot easier to cut down before you do this.
Try setting yourself a target. For example, if you usually smoke an entire pack per day, try cutting down by two, after a few days, try two less and so on until you are smoking zero per day. Telling yourself you don’t need it is already half the battle won.
Bad Habit: Nail Biting
Finally, nail biting might be something that you have struggled with since childhood. Many people bite their nails well into their adult life, and while it doesn’t harm you in any way, it can be irritating and make your nails look a mess. Now, this doesn’t bother some people, but for those of you who want to break this bad habit, there are some ways to do it.
Try to figure out what you are getting from biting your nails. If the answer you come up with is nothing, then you need to cut this out of your life. Once you have made the commitment to yourself to stop biting your nails, you might want to try nail polish. The taste of this puts many people off biting their nails, as they don’t want little pieces of polish in their mouth.
If this doesn’t work, there is a product that you can buy where you put your finger in a sponge that contains a liquid. The liquid tastes horrible, and this has helped many people ditch nail biting.
