According to experts, an adult needs at least seven to eight hours of sleep at night. Some studies have also suggested that lack of sleep may be that missing ingredient for many people struggling to lose weight. So, if you’re on a weight loss journey, here are some surprising ways you can lose weight while you sleep.

Seven hours of sleep time may help you avoid weight gain

Some research suggests that there is a connection between inadequate sleep and weight gain. The link was established due to two main reasons. First, experts suggest that the lack of sufficient sleep is one of the factors that can lead to stress. Many people tend to resort to eating more or relying on comfort foods when they’re stressed- causing them to gain weight. The other reason is that the lack of sleep can negatively affect a person’s hunger levels, causing people to consume too many calories from high sugar and high-fat foods. The lack of a good night’s sleep can also affect your hunger hormone levels. It increases the amount of ghrelin your body produces and decreases your body’s leptin. Ghrelin is a hormone that makes you feel hungry, while leptin makes you feel full.

Taking a cold shower may be the last thing on your mind, especially if the weather is already cold. But it should be something you should consider if you want to lose weight while sleeping. An icy cold shower can do much more than just flush out the lactic acid from your body after hitting the gym. Some research suggests that putting your body under a cold temperature for about 30 seconds is more than enough to activate your body’s brown fat or brown adipose tissue. 

Once your brown fat is fired up, it can do a good number on your calorie count. While you sleep, the process will continue to melt as much as 400 extra calories. You should also ensure that the cold water runs from your head down your neck, as there’s usually a lot of brown fat stored in the back of the neck and the shoulders.
