Weight loss surgery is no easy operation. Physically it takes its toll as recovery takes a good month. And chances are that you’ve focused all of your energies on physical health after weight loss surgery. But I will bet that you have paid little thought to the emotional toll that such a massive life change […]

Bariatric Surgery: Gastric Sleeve vs. Gastric Bypass

Bariatric surgery is a term that encompasses many different treatments — such as a gastric sleeve surgery. All of these treatments and surgical procedures are aimed at obese people who need to lose weight. The idea with each of them is they alter your digestive system to promote more weight loss. Many obese individuals need […]

Healthy Diet Hacks after Bariatric Surgery

Good health habits are generally slow to develop. And it takes a lot of effort to stay the course for the long journey. After the bariatric diet ends, we try various other diets and exercise routines. Yet still we seek that magical combination of what is both enjoyable and easy to stick with. And that’s precisely […]

4 Gentle Exercises after Bariatric Surgery

When you’ve been sedentary and morbidly obese for a long time, it can be difficult to get into a regular exercise routine. Following the weight loss that comes from bariatric surgery, you’ll feel renewed energy. But you may still need to take things at a slow pace for your safety. It’s unlikely you’ll be ready […]

Psychological Reasons for Weight Regain after Bariatric Surgery

Weight regain after bariatric surgery is a reality.  The numbers aren’t conclusive, but one study found that excess weight loss is at approximately 77% within the first year but drops to 56% after five years.  Another study found that only 40% of gastric bypass patients maintained a 30% or more loss after 12 years.  Obviously, […]

Advocating for Your Healthcare as an Obese Patient

At one time or another, we are subject to fat shaming and weight discrimination. Even in the sacred space of healthcare, practitioners often treat us indifferently rather than properly. The New York Times newspaper reports our healthcare system — in its attitudes, equipment and common practices — is ill prepared. And its practitioners are often […]

Looking After Your Mental Health Post-Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery can be an effective way to lose weight, particularly if other options haven’t enabled you to achieve your goals. However, any type of weight loss has an impact on your mental health. Fortunately, many clinicians ensure their patients have access to emotional support and counseling prior to and following bariatric surgery.  Of course, […]

Bariatric Surgery Psychological Evaluation Explained

When I thought about writing an article on the purpose of the bariatric surgery psychological evaluation, I realized that I won’t be able to give you many “hard facts” about these evaluations.  Unfortunately, there are no strict guidelines in the field of bariatric surgery on how to conduct these assessments.  This lack of guidelines leads […]

Bariatric Vitamins: Why ASMBS Guidelines are Important

At least once in our lives, we’ve all been told to take our vitamins, most likely in our early child years. While chewing our tasty Flintstones vitamins, we probably were unaware of the health benefits that these candy-like vitamins possessed. As adults, we have a far better understanding of the importance of taking our vitamins […]

A powder room was redone with a swirling red-and-white wallpaper to mirror the pops of red throughout the rest of the house and filled with burnished brass and gilded furniture topped with classical white objects d'arte in bright whites for a subtle contrast. Gorgeous.I like to use the color Red to warm up a room. Red Parrot from Benjamin Moore was perfect for this master bath in an urban townhouse. I particularly liked the contrast with the cool Calacutta marble and the white Empire soaking tub from Waterworks. Red Parrot is a particular favorite of mine because the claret undertone softens what can be percieved as a strong color.
